Manufacturing & Orders

What is your normal lead time?

For 20 feet container, our normal lead time is 30 to 45 days from the date of conformation of order along payment or copy of L/C.

What does Private /OEM/custom label mean?

A private label /OEM/Custom label is a product or service that is specifically produced or made available by one company for offer under another company’s trademark. As for example, credit cards, these are offered by different bank brands with their labels on, but these cards are all powered by some other source, e.g., VISA, MASTER, etc., and any agreement between the above parties is known as a Private Label/OEM Agreement.

Can Komax offer Private /Custom /OEM labeling?

Entire line of 6-inch water cooled, rewind-able submersible motors. SS and CI bore hole pumps are available for private labeling. Ranging sizes 3”, 4”, 6” and 8” diameter borehole pump-sets.

Does Komax manufacture submersible motors?

Yes, Komax produces Water filled rewind-able submersible motors.

Technical Fundamentals

What are the basic components of centrifugal Pump?

There are two main components of centrifugal pump:

  1. Impeller and shaft (Moving parts)
  2. Casing, casing cover and bearings (Stationary parts)
What is Pump Efficiency

Pump efficiency is defined as the ratio of the power imparted on the fluid by the pump in relation to the power supplied to drive the pump. It is the ratio of hydraulic power to shaft power.

What is motor horse Power(MHP)?

MHP refers to the horsepower supplied in the form of electrical current. The efficiency of most motors range from 80-95%.

What is Brake Horsepower (BHP)?

BHP refers to the horsepower supplied to the pump from the motor. As the power moves through the pump, additional horsepower is lost, resulting from slippage and friction of the shaft and other factors.

What is Water Horsepower?

Water horsepower refers to the actual horse power transferred to the pumped water.

How submersible pump work?

A submersible pump pushes water to the surface by converting rotary energy into kinetic energy and kinetic energy into pressure energy. This is done by the water being pulled into the pump. First in the intake, where the rotation of the impeller pushes the water through the diffuser. From there, it goes to the surface.

How submersible motor work?

Submersible motor is an electric motor which can operate while being submerged in water. This sealed motor is typically used with pumps. It converts electrical energy into mechanical energy (shaft power).

Installation & Selection

How much horsepower pump I need?

Two things are required in horse power selection:

  1. Discharge (m3/h / GPH / liter/min)
  2. Dynamic head (feet / meter) Based on these factors, a pump can be selected from the characteristic curves and then Motor horsepower accordingly.
What is the recommended well casing size for 4’’ submersible pump?

5” or 6’’ well casings should be used for 4” Submersible. Lower sizes can create physical/ mechanical problems during installation. Whereas extra-large size can affect the cooling of the motor.

What is the general pump Setting level in the well?

Ideally the pump should be placed above the main filter of the bore in the blind. If drawdown occurs in such case than the pump setting level in the normal well is 6’ to 8’from the bottom. But if the well bottom is sandy then the pump setting is 20’ to 25’ from the bottom in order to prevent the motor from the sand. It is always advisable to use a cooling jacket in case the pump is installed below the main filter of the well.

Why is it important to use a safety rope?

During the pump installation safety rope provides some level of protection during pump set falling and helps in retrieving it.

How to wire / connect a 3-wire / 3 phase submersible motor?

The 3 phase submersible motor has four wires. Red, black, blue and the yellow-green ground wire. The red, black and blue all connect to L1, L2 & L3 in the control box. The yellow-green is connected to the ground terminal.

Does Komax provide installation / commissioning instructions for their products?

Yes, Komax Installation / Operating manuals are supplied with each pump/motor and every model.

Can Komax submersible pumps and motors be coupled with any other pumps and motors?

Yes, coupling dimensions are in accordance with NEMA Standard, it can be coupled with any other NEMA Standard pump/motor.

Troubleshooting & Safety

Why Submersible Motors Fail?

Submersible motor fails because of:

  1. Over Temperature: Pumping Hot water, Frequent motor on & off.
  2. Stator Failure: Insulation of Winding is damaged.
  3. Hydraulic Loading: Water Hammer or hydraulic shock loading.
  4. Motor Seal: If motor seal is damage, then sludge enters the motor and damage it.
  5. Voltage: Under voltage or over voltage.
  6. Voltage Spikes: A very serious problem for all induction motors failure.
  7. Over Loading: Water impurities, mechanical damage, or locked impellers.
What happen if motor/pump is operated in under voltage conditions?

The motor will consume more current which results in increase of winding temperature and may lead to motor burnout.

What happen if motor/pump is operated in over voltage conditions?

The insulation of winding may fail causing short circuit leading to motor burnout.

What could be the reasons if the motor gets over heated while running?
  1. Under or over voltage; 2. Unbalanced three-phase power; 3. Loss of insulation resistance; 4. High ambient temperature; 5. Very high or low flow rate; 6. More mechanical friction; 7. High viscosity of the liquid.
How to troubleshoot in case of any fault in the product?

Troubleshooting information is provided in the Installation and Operating Manuals supplied with all the Komax products.
